The Ghost HotBox features an internal induction coil in a semi see through enclosure. It has a glass tube within the coil as a barrier between the scalpel and coil that is removable for cleaning if needed. 
Induction works with ferrous metals only, meaning it must contain enough iron to react with the electromagnetic current within the coil. The object you wish to sterilize must be in the center 1/3 of the coil  where the electromagnetic current is concentrated.  There is an internal fan to help prevent damage from excess heat buildup, but it should not be left on for prolonged periods of time. It is best to turn the unit off between uses and use only as needed. Unfortunately, it does not work on needles, inoculation loops and some tweezers.
